Leinfelden-Echterdingen/Stuttgart - #daimlertruck is strongly committed to respect and support human rights and we expect the same from our business partners throughout the value chain. #daimlertruck reaffirms this commitment in its Declaration of Principles on Social Responsibility and Human Rights, which the company's Board of Management and General Works Council have signed together with the World Employee Committee and the international trade union federation IndustriALL Global Union. The declaration follows the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and takes into account new developments such as the handling of data protection and artificial intelligence.

The Declaration of Principles on Social Responsibility and Human Rights is available on the #daimlertruck website for sustainability: https://www.daimlertruck.com/documents/innovation-sustainability/daimler-truck-principles-of-social-responsibility-and-human-rights.pdf

Jürgen Hartwig, Member of the Board of Management, Human Resources and Labor Director at #daimlertruck: "As a global company, we are very aware of our social responsibility. Respecting and supporting human rights is of central importance to us, which is why we at #daimlertruck have been committed to this for many years. Our common understanding is already defined in our Code of Conduct and we have now reaffirmed it in the Declaration of Principles for Social Responsibility and Human Rights. The declaration underlines both our own aspirations in this area and the expectations we have of our business partners.”

The Declaration of Principles forms the basis for how #daimlertruck realizes its social responsibility and summarizes the company's commitment to human rights at #daimlertruck.

Michael Brecht, Chairman of the General Works Council #daimlertruck: "The compliance with human-, trade union-, and employee rights worldwide is very important for me personally and it is a significant task of the #daimlertruck General Works Council. With the Declaration of Principles on Social Responsibility and Human Rights, we have the appropriate basis therefor. To this end, we have created a strong platform with the newly constituted World Employee Committee, in which 23 countries are currently represented. Through joint initiatives and cooperation with the international industrial unions, possible human rights violations can be detected and appropriate measures taken."

In addition, #daimlertruck appointed Thomas Laubert as Human Rights Officer. He assumes the newly created function in addition to his duties as Chief Legal & Compliance Officer. As Human Rights Officer, Thomas Laubert is responsible for all preventive processes and structures worldwide that are intended to ensure respect for and support of human rights within #daimlertruck. These include the company's own Human Rights Compliance Management System, the Code of Conduct for employees and external Business Partner Standards for suppliers and service providers. In his function as Human Rights Officer, Thomas Laubert reports directly to the Board of Management.

Social responsibility with tradition

The company has been taking responsibility for human rights and social responsibility for many years. For example, the #daimler Group laid down its aspiration and requirements in a binding Code of Conduct in 2002. In 2021, #daimler AG laid down the requirements for respecting and supporting human rights in a Declaration of Principles. With the signing of the current Declaration of Principles, #daimlertruck is consistently pursuing this path as an independent company.
