This is the first time that these works have been studied from a conservation and restoration point of view. The research aims to determine the technique employed for these works and to confirm if they are the original plasters or from intermediate moulds in the bronze casting process. This will contribute to a fuller understanding of the artist's creative process, as it will make it possible to detail the various stages between the original model, the mould, to the bronze itself.
The study will also examine Picasso's connections with the casting workshops and be informed about the production context by studying the documentary archives of the Musée national Picasso-Paris, and the Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz Picasso para el Arte (FABA).
The research team is composed of Clara Stagni, conservator at FABA, and Pascale Roumégoux, conservator specializing in 19th and 20th century works in plaster, with the collaboration of Museo Picasso Málaga's art restorer, Laura Resina. The survey undertaken by Museo Picasso Málaga and Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz Picasso para el Arte (FABA) will also involve sample analyses, which will be carried out by the Instituto Andaluz de Patrimonio Histórico.
