Marchetti Tech studies the environmental impact of graphene on the world's longest pipelines

At the Studio of the Milanese company producer of Graphene paints -Marchetti Tech ™ - announces the calculation of the environmental impact, on the longest gas pipeline in the world West-East: 8,707km.

Marchetti Tech™ is currently working on a sustainability simulation for the maintenance of oil pipelines such as the world's longest West-East pipeline in China, operated by Petrochina: "Calculating the savings in economic terms is much easier - determining the energy consumption, human resource savings and environmental impact is the real big challenge," confirms manager Dr. Jonathan Long from London "We can't think of going out to maintain works of this type and periodically entering natural places that are crossed by oil pipelines”.

Grafy-Coating™, Marchetti Tech's new line of graphene paints, is a solution to ensure long term resistance against corrosion thereby extending maintenance time and saving time, investment as well as improving safety by reducing waste and human impact in places that are still natural.  The West-East pipeline is operated by PetroChina, which holds a 72.26% share through PetroChina Oil. It includes a main line (Phase I) and eight branches. Phase I connects the Tarim Basin gas fields in Xianjing with China's largest city, Shanghai, spanning more than 4,000 km. The pipeline runs through no fewer than 66 cities in ten provinces, and the gas is used for electricity generation in the Yangtze River Delta.

It originally had the capacity to hold 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, but now the pipeline has been expanded to 17 billion cubic meters in 2007. Ten new gas compressor stations have been built to support the additional gas. The total cost of the project is estimated at $5.7 million.
