Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN celebrates 110 years of Alfa Romeo

Hinwil, 24 June 2020 – Alfa Romeo #racing #orlen is joining the celebrations for the 110 years of Alfa Romeo as the title partner of the team, under whose name it competes, reaches this great milestone.

Born in Milan on June 24th, 1910, as Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, or A.L.F.A., and gaining its current moniker after World War I under the ownership of Nicola Romeo, Alfa Romeo is uniquely linked to some of the most prestigious pages of the history of Formula One: its Alfetta 158 and 159 were the dominating forces in the first two seasons of the world championship, winning the inaugural race in the championship’s history and propelling Nino Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio to the title in 1950 and 1951.

This sporty soul is well and truly alive in today’s Alfa Romeo #racing #orlen Formula One team, competing under the logo of the Biscione on the world’s most prestigious #racing scene.

To celebrate this special occasion, Alfa Romeo will open the doors of its historic museum in Arese, Italy, inviting fans and motorsport enthusiasts from all over the world to see a unique exhibition of #auto making and motorsport history – both in person and online.

A special celebration programme will be broadcast on Alfa Romeo’s YouTube channel and it is only fitting that the drivers following in the hallowed footsteps of Farina and Fangio, Alfa Romeo #racing ORLEN’s Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi, will make a special appearance to represent the team. The programme will start at 3:30pm CEST.

The day will also see the public debut of the new limited-edition Giulia GTA, conceived for Alfa Romeo’s 110th #anniversary. The new Giulia GTA, based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio, is fitted with a more powerful version of the 2.9 V-6 bi-turbo engine with 540 hp and a special body kit designed and manufactured by Sauber Engineering. With its extensive use of ultra-light materials, it benefits from a weight reduction of 100 kg, achieving a best-in-class weight/power ratio of 2.82 kg/hp.

Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal Alfa Romeo #racing #orlen and CEO Sauber Motorsport AG: “It is a great honour to be part of the incredible story of Alfa Romeo. This is a marque that has written indelible moments of motorsport and we are proud to be writing the latest chapter in this prestigious history, on track and, through Sauber Engineering’s work on the new Giulia GTA, on the road. On behalf of everyone at Alfa Romeo #racing #orlen, I offer the team’s congratulations for this important milestone, hoping the next 110 year can be as successful as the ones we just completed.”
