Carlsberg celebrates topping-out ceremony with a greeting for the future

A time capsule made of copper with a selection of the most iconic #carlsberg Group brands was cast into the foundation of Carlsberg’s future headquarters in #valby.

Today, #carlsberg Group held a topping-out ceremony, an old tradition in the building industry, to commemorate the construction of their new headquarters in the #carlsberg City District with a greeting for the future. A copper box made for the occasion was cast down the foundation 15 meters below #valby Hill with a number of #carlsberg Group's most iconic beers from around the world. The time capsule includes #carlsberg pilsner, #tuborg, #baltikano7, #dalibeer, an alcohol-free #carlsbergnordic and three specialty beers: #grimbergen, #kronenbourgblanc, and an Original Dark Lager, a #jacobsen brew based on the old recipe from founder J.C. Jacobsen’s time, and finally, #carlsberg 1883, brewed with the original pure yeast, invented at the #carlsberg Research Laboratory in 1883.

Carlsberg Group's CFO Heine Dalsgaard laid the time capsule in the ground before the topping-out ceremony.

"We put this time capsule in the ground because we are proud of our legacy, but also the brews we brew today and all our employees who brew them. Today’s traditional topping-out ceremony for our new headquarters - built on a solid foundation, now holding our greetings for the future - illustrates that we believe in the future and that there is an even better day tomorrow for both #carlsberg and the world around us,” Heine Dalsgaard said.

In addition to the selected beers, all employees who will move into the new headquarters have had the opportunity to write a greeting for the future. All greetings were collected in one book, which was also placed in the copper box together with the selected beers.

"I have read a bit in the book, and our descendants who one day find the time capsule will not only find the world’s best beers but also evidence that #carlsberg in 2018 is a brewery proud of its legacy and company purpose, with a lot of talented and passionate employees who brew both for a better today and tomorrow,” says Heine Dalsgaard.

Following Heine Dalsgaard’s speech, Ebbe Malte Iversen, CEO of Per Aarsleff A/S, building the new headquarters, delivered a speech. “We feel we are a small part of a great history”, Ebbe Malte Iversen said.

The new headquarters, which will have four floors and 15,585 m2, will be inaugurated in 2020. For the first time in history, the #carlsberg Research Laboratory will now be physically connected to the headquarters via a 7.685m2 large underground car park. The first basements under #carlsberg were built together with the original brewery in 1847 and was since expanded to more than 7km in length, however there was never a corridor connecting the headquarters and the laboratory before now. The highest point of the building will be 18 meters from the top of #valby Hill, and the parking basement will be 15 meters deep. The copper facade will be made of 50% recyclable copper, and the building will come equipped with solar and green roofs, in line with #carlsberg Group’s sustainability programme, Together Towards ZERO.
