Peter Schäfer appointed to the Executive Board of Porsche Engineering

Porsche Engineering’s business model has grown significantly over the last five years both in terms of content and its international footprint. In addition to conventional vehicle development tasks, the company receives customer orders in the fast-growing areas of digitisation and testing in particular. This takes place under the auspices of a rapidly growing international development network. The strategic business fields of derivative and system development, testing and digitisation will in future be headed by the triumvirate of Managing Directors Malte Radmann (Chair), Dirk Lappe and #peterschafer. The expansion of the Executive Board takes into account the increased technical and organisational complexity in particular.

“We are delighted that we were able to recruit #peterschafer for this demanding task”, says Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board of #porsche AG for Research and Development, as well as Chairman of the Shareholders’ Committee of the #porsche Engineering Group. “His extensive range of contacts, proven technical expertise and experience in #automotive development are the ideal requirements for this new role.”

Schäfer: “Porsche has a great tradition of providing engineering services to customers”

After studying mechanical engineering, followed by a doctorate at the University of Stuttgart, #peterschafer held positions in chassis design at Ford and Volkswagen AG. He joined the #porsche Group in 2003 and has held positions including a stint as a member of the Executive Board of #porsche Engineering from 2004 to 2009. Following that, Schäfer was responsible for Chassis Development and latterly Complete Vehicle Engineering/Quality Management in #porsche AG’s development department.

“Porsche has a great tradition of providing engineering services to customers”, says #peterschafer. “The #porsche Engineering Group is faced with numerous technical and organisational challenges in the coming years. The ability to make a significant contribution to overcoming these challenges and to drive further growth in the company is an attractive task.”

Porsche Engineering Group GmbH, Weissach, is an international provider of premium engineering services in the #automotive sector. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the sports car manufacturer Dr. Ing. h.c. F. #porsche AG, Stuttgart. In this way, #porsche Engineering combines the nature of a perfectly networked medium-sized company in south west Germany with the experience of a globally successful car manufacturer.
