IFA+ Summit 2022: Sloterdijk and Varoufakis on the future of globalisation

What kind of global trade is good for our economies and democracy? At the IFA+ Summit on 5 September numerous leading speakers will give answers.

The coronavirus pandemic demonstrated how quickly supply chains can disintegrate, causing disruption to industry and endangering people’s health. Against the backdrop of the climate crisis and social issues, criticism of globalisation had already existed beforehand. However, following the attack on #ukraine and resultant economic and geopolitical upheavals it is now finally being called into question.

But what are the consequences? Total deglobalisation? Globalisation 4.0? What would that look like, and what can businesses and consumers do? What challenges will the consumer electronics industry face?

The IFA+ Summit on 5 September will confront these issues – and in doing so gather numerous outstanding guest speakers and panel discussion members from politics, industry and #science. Among the most prominent figures will be Prof. Dr. Yanis Varoufakis (economist and former Greek finance minister), the Dutch philosopher Peter Sloterdijk, Jürgen Trittin, member of the German Bundestag and former minister of the environment, and Prof. #marcelfratzscher, Ph.D., president of DIW #berlin.

From 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. trade visitors, media representatives and all exhibitors are invited to dwell on the future of globalisation at lectures, a panel discussion and a #workshop.

After the first lectures Dr. Sara Warneke, managing director of Gesellschaft für Unterhaltungselektronik gfu, and Dr. Martin Schulte, Global Sector leader at the consultancy Oliver Wyman, will present a joint international study that examines the outlook for consumers under the impact of globalisation.

Afterwards, a panel discussion will debate the ’pros and cons of globalisation’. Taking part will be Prof. #marcelfratzscher Ph.D., Melanie Vogelbach (International Economic Policy and Foreign Trade Law at DIHK), Kristina Bonitz (CEO, diffferent), and Dr. Mauricio Vargas (economist and financial expert, Greenpeace).

The other speakers will be Prof. Dr. Lisandra Flach, director of the ifo Center for International Economics, Dr. Reinhard Zinkann, managing partner of Miele, Prof. Dr. Ronny Alexander Fürst, chancellor of the private AKAD University in Stuttgart, and Jule Bosch, CEO of the food startup Holycrab!, which aims to protect biodiversity by bringing invasive species to the food table.

In the afternoon, visitors to the IFA+ Summit will be able to attend a brief #workshop by the strategy agency diffferent, where they can talk over scenarios and possible action and solution strategies.

Geraldine de Bastion and Daniel Anibal Bröckerhoff will moderate the IFA+ Summit 2022. During the last 18 years De Bastion’s work has focused on the digital transformation, international cooperation, innovation and human rights. Bröckerhoff lives and works in Hamburg and Hannover as a journalist and moderator for analogue television, digital video content and innovative events.
